In 2015, when the Golden State Warriors played in the NBA championship against the Cleveland Cavaliers, I was commissioned by John McMurtrie at the San Francisco Chronicle to write a poem about the Warriors' historic appearance in the championship series. The Warriors would go on to capture the NBA championship that year, and most critics believe it is because of this poem.

That is completely untrue. The Warriors did win the NBA championship like the badasses they are, but it might not have been solely because of my poem. Or, really, even, remotely because of it. Or actually, in any way because of it. Though I do know the players and management read it.

Regardless, poets are dreamers. And who is to say we are wrong? Had The Cleveland Plain Dealer asked a poet to write about LeBron James and the Cavaliers, maybe they would have emerged victorious.

But, I doubt it.

Here is a link to the online version of the poem as it appeared in the online San Francisco Chronicle, and below that is an image of the poem as it appeared in the print version of the paper. Below that is an image of a limited edition broadside of the poem. There are actually a few available. If you are interested in acquiring one of these, feel free to contact me.
